The YPDers of the Columbia Area enjoyed a wonderful fellowship at our recent meeting, which was held at Mt. Pisgah AME Church on Saturday, January 26, 2011. From the praise and worship to the workshops to participating in the Hearts of Love service project for the house guests of the Ronals McDonald House, we were truly growing, glowing and going for Christ! THE YPD

The Young People’s and Children’s Division (YPD) is a youth organization which has been established as a Christian Education agency of the A. M. E. Church to ensure the Christian development of youth. Established in 1915, it is under the auspices of the Women’s Missionary Society. YPD units may be found in most local A. M. E. churches throughout the Connection—the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, South America and Africa.

THE STRUCTURE

This organization shall be composed of the Connectional, the Episcopal District, the Conference Branch, the Area, and the local Young Peoples and Children’s Division of the Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

THE DIVISIONS:

There are three divisions among the membership, 2-26 years of age. The Children’s Division embodies two units:

  • The Mother’s Sunbeam, ages 2-6 (pre-school to primary)

  • Allen Stars, ages 7-12 (primary to sixth grade).
  • The Youth Division is called the Young People’s Auxiliary, ages 13-17.

  • The Young Adult Division consists of young men and women, 18-26 years of age.

Young women may transfer to full membership in the Women’s Missionary Society after 18 or upon reaching the age of 26. Young men may become associates at those same ages.

YPD MOTTO:

"Grow, Glow, and Go for Christ"

THE YPD COLORS:

The colors shall be forest green and white. Green is symbolic of growth and Christian vitality. The white represents purity, light and faith.

BENEDICTION:

In the name of the Triune God, may the spirit of Christian Mission enter every heart, may the spirit of Christian Mission enter every heart. This we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
