Reverend Drayton is a native of Georgetown, South Carolina. He is the seventh child of the late Mr. Frank and Mrs. Mary Lee Nesbitt Drayton. He attended J. B. Beck Elementary School and Howard High School where he graduated in 1968 and received his diploma.
After graduating from High School, Reverend Drayton enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He continued his education at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina and graduated in 1975 with a degree in Sociology; from there he attended Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio and received a Master of Divinity Degree in 1978.
In August of 1973, Reverend Drayton delivered his initial sermon at his home church, Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Georgetown, South Carolina; and was licensed to preach on February 24, 1974. In October 1977, he became an Ordained Itinerant Deacon at Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church, in the Columbia Conference, Spartanburg District. On November 17, 1978, he became an Ordained Itinerant Elder at Greater St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church, Palmetto Annual Conference, Charleston, South Carolina.
Reverend Drayton has served as Pastor at the following churches:
· Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Frankfort, Ohio from 1976-1978,
· Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Delaware, Ohio from 1978-1980,
· St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, West Virginia from 1980-1988,
· St. Paul African Methodist Church in Canton, Ohio from 1988-1992,
· Moncks Corner African Methodist Episcopal Church, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina from 1992-2001
He was promoted to the office of Presiding Elder and appointed to serve the Georgetown District from 2001-2006 under the Right Reverend Henry Allen Belin, Jr. In November 2006, he was appointed to the Columbia District to serve as Presiding Elder by Bishop Preston Warren Williams, II. Reverend Drayton was also elected to the South Carolina Delegate to the 48th Session of the General Conference.
Reverend Drayton has been married to Mrs. Pradensia Hughes Drayton for 33 years. This union was blessed with three children; Maurice, Monika, and Myron, one grandson, Montrell and one granddaughter, Makena.
Reverend Drayton has touched the lives of many people in a positive way. He has nurtured young and old alike within the church and community.
